CITY OF SOUTH FULTON – Police shot and killed a man while trying to execute a warrant. It happened on Friday afternoon in the city of South Fulton. Investigators say Chase McDermott was a member of a gang. Channel 2’s Tom Jones spoke to McDermott’s father, Harold McDermott, who said he still could not believe his son had left. He also said he could not believe his son was armed and pointed a gun at the officers. But police say Chase McDermott was armed and that was when police opened fire. He told Jones he was trying to keep it together after Atlanta police shot and killed his 22-year-old son inside their home. He said he was sitting on his deck shortly after on Hania Drive when several police officers surrounded his house around noon. They asked for his son. He said he tried to go in and see if he was there. “They punched me back and then when I came back I heard two gunshots and they killed my son,” said Harold McDermott. MOVIE STORIES: Police say their fugitive unit was looking for the youngest McDermott and they were at home to execute a warrant. “He is wanted for gang-related homicide,” said Atlanta Deputy Chief of Police Charles Hampton. Police said they saw Chase McDermott and entered the house. “When they entered the house, they met the armed fugitive,” Hampton said. Hampton said a police officer opened fire. He did not say what caused the shooting. [SIGN UP: WSB-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter] “I can not even see him pointing a gun at the police, to be honest with you,” said Harold McDermott. Harold McDermott said his son had recently been handed over for other charges and would do so the same Friday if detectives asked him to. “I was intimidated, intimidated and shot,” said Harold McDermott. The father said that this has a heavy price on his family. “I’m injured, ” Harold McDermott said. The eldest McDermott said his family took his son’s gun after he was recently arrested and told he could not have a gun, so he does not believe his son had a gun.
