BOISE, Idaho – A former Idaho lawmaker was convicted Friday of raping a 19-year-old lawmaker after a dramatic trial in which a young woman stepped down as a witness during a testimony, saying “I can not do that. ». The practitioner told a Statehouse supervisor that Aaron von Ehlinger raped her in his apartment after the two had dined at a Boise restaurant in March 2021. Von Ehlinger said the sex was consensual. Lewiston, a Republican at the time, was serving as state representative, but later resigned. Von Ehlinger, 39, was found guilty on Friday of rape. He was found not guilty of sexual assault with a foreign object. Von Ellinger sat quietly as the verdict was read, as he did throughout the trial. The maximum sentence may be as high as life imprisonment, at the discretion of the judge. The sentence is scheduled for July 28. Doe resisted in several ways, she said, citing testimonies from law enforcement investigators and a sexual assault nurse interviewed by Doe after the alleged attack. “Words show a lack of consensus. His ‘Why not’s excuses’ show a lack of consensus. Turning your head back and getting hurt shows a lack of consensus,” Farley said. However, von Ellinger’s lawyer told jurors that the prosecution’s case consisted of “red herring” and said that Von Ellinger was a credible person who willingly took a stand to share his side of the story.
