Authorities say Casey White is being held on murder charges and two lawmakers should be with him at all times, even when he is on trial. Vicky White coordinated all transfers from the detention center to the court and therefore knew the protocol, the sheriff added. Singleton said that although Casey White was allegedly taken to court for a mental health assessment, they have since learned that no such assessment or other court hearing was scheduled for Friday. “Knowing the detainee, I think she is in danger no matter what the circumstances … She was in prison for murder and had nothing to lose,” Singleton said. Authorities are now examining all possibilities for what happened, including whether the correctional officer helped Casey White escape. “Whether she helped him or not, we do not know and we will not deal with it until we have full proof that it happened. We assume at this point that she was arrested against her will, unless we can prove otherwise,” Singleton added. Authorities said they were still searching for and investigating any interactions between the correctional officer and Casey White, as well as any phone calls he had received. When Vicky White accompanied Casey White out of jail, she told the guard that she was going to leave him in court and then go for medical help because she was not feeling well. The sheriff said Casey White never surrendered to the court and Vicky White did not get to the place where she said she was going to seek medical help. Authorities did not realize he was missing until just a few hours later. Her vehicle, a 2013 Ford Taurus patrol car, was first spotted in a mall parking lot around 11 a.m. by someone taking a lunch break, Singleton said. Around 3:30 p.m., police officers at the jail were alarmed and tried to reach her, but her phone kept going straight to the answering machine. Then they realized that Casey White had not returned to prison. Vicky White has been working in the department for 25 years and is eligible for retirement – something she has talked about doing in recent months, Singleton added. “All the precautions were in place. The question we have for Director White is why she violated the policy,” Singleton said. “Casey White, who is 6.9,” is considered armed and dangerous. Vicky White “was armed with a 9mm pistol, which means we assume he is armed,” Singleton added.
