Lauderdale County Sheriff’s office clerk Vicky White and unrelated Casey Cole White have not been seen since 9:30 a.m. Friday. No one noticed that they had disappeared until 6 hours later. Officer White, a 25-year-old assistant director of corrections, left the detention center on Friday morning with the detainee, telling the detention officer that he was accompanying him to court for a mental health assessment. He said that after leaving him, he planned to seek medical help because he was not feeling well. twitter

They have not seen since. According to Sheriff Rick Singleton, Deputy White’s 2013 Ford Taurus was found abandoned in the parking lot of a nearby mall around 11 a.m. Friday. But the alarm only sounded at 3.30 p.m. of that day. It was only when the booking officer tried to contact Officer White by telephone, but kept sending it to the answering machine, that they realized that something was wrong. They realized that Casey White never appeared in court and never returned to prison. They also realized he had not scheduled mental health assessments that day, the WVTM reported. After calling the local emergency centers, Officer White did not check in either. The sheriff issued a blue alarm. “Casey White is being held on murder charges,” he warned. “If anyone finds him, call 911 immediately and DO NOT APPROACH!” Waiting for your permission to upload the post to Facebook. At a news conference on Friday, Sheriff Singleton said his deputy had violated the protocol by trying to transport only one suspected killer, calling it a “grave policy violation.” A detainee facing such charges must always be accompanied by at least two sworn deputies. But because Officer White is so senior – and indeed is the one who coordinates all transfers as head of operations – no one disputed her. Facebook

Sheriff Singleton described her as an “exemplary employee” who was considering retiring soon. She admitted she did not know if she had been abducted – or helped the detainee escape. “Did it help him escape? That’s obviously a possibility,” Singleton was quoted as saying by the Independent. “Well, we look at it as a point of view of the investigation – they kidnapped her on the way to the courthouse and, you know, they took her against her will?” Either way, the sheriff said her life was in danger and they were working on the case that inmate White now owns her 9mm police gun. “Knowing the prisoner, I think [Officer White] “It’s in danger no matter what the circumstances,” Singleton said. “He was in prison for a deadly murder. “He has nothing to lose.” White was arrested on murder charges related to the 2015 fatal knife of 58-year-old mother Connie Ridgeway. The case went unsolved for five years until White – who was already in jail for a crime spree across Alabama and Tennessee – wrote a letter to authorities confessing to the murder.
