Two men, one of whom is about 80 years old, are facing serious charges after a riot in Northern Bay on Thursday night. The Harbor Grace RCMP responded to a community home around 8:30 p.m. Police say police spoke to passengers to calm the situation. It turns out that there was a pending warrant for 80-year-old Sylvester Woodfine Sr. When police informed him that he had been arrested, he became upset and allegedly attacked the police officer with various objects in the house. Woodfine’s son, 47-year-old Sylvester Woodfine Jr., was also upset and tried to intervene by threatening and attacking another officer. Both men were removed from the house and detained without further incident. The older Woodfine faces charges of assaulting a police officer with a gun and resisting arrest and was released to appear in court later. The youngest was also charged with assaulting a police officer, obstructing and making threats. He was remanded in custody to appear in court on Monday.
