The tourists found the shell while traveling in the Golan Heights, the Israeli airport authorities explained in a press release. Israel occupied the Golan Heights from Syria in a war in 1967 and annexed the narrow strip of land in 1981. The area is considered an occupied area under international law and UN Security Council resolutions. Upon arrival at the airport, the American travelers reported the missile to the airport security during the delivery of the luggage and the airport staff announced an evacuation. The video, which has been circulating on social media, shows people panicking, running behind pillars and crouching on the ground. One person was injured in the incident, an Israeli passenger who fell on the luggage belt in the midst of chaos. “After a security incident was ruled out, the evacuation of the terminal was canceled,” the Israeli airport authorities confirmed. The American travelers were interrogated by the airport authorities, but were then allowed to board their flight. Israeli airport authorities said the incident was “currently under operational investigation”. The injured was taken to hospital. Amir Tal reported from Jerusalem.
