On March 29, around 11 p.m., police were called to the 600 block of Center Street South for reports of an attack. According to a statement issued by the police this week, the victim said that he was thrown to the ground by two strangers who then kicked the victim several times. Security personnel at a nearby building located the victim and called emergency services. Upon arrival, police located a man who had rib and face injuries and needed medical attention. Police believe the incident was an unprovoked attack on a vulnerable Calgarian. Corbin Maverick Riley, 21, and John Segovia Calderon, 21, have been charged with aggravated assault. Police reiterated that the incident was believed to be a hate speech. “Every resident of Calgary has the right to feel safe in our city and violence against vulnerable members of our city will not be tolerated,” police said in a press release issued on Thursday.
