Fire crews were called shortly after 8 a.m. Friday in the southeastern community of Quarry Park and battled the blaze until Saturday. “The fire quickly grew in size and volume and fire crews were forced to intervene with remote water supply and pipes,” according to a Calgary Fire Department press release. “The water supply was a challenge for the teams as the nearest tap was almost a kilometer from the fire.” Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement for the city of Calgary shortly after 8 a.m. “Smoke from a fire at Quarry Park in southeastern Calgary is causing high levels of air pollution in the area,” according to Environment Canada.
