Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Dennis Wolfford told ABC13 that at about 1:05 a.m., a woman called 911 and said her 16-year-old sister was being held captive at gunpoint by her mother’s friend inside a house on Canton Trace Lane. When lawmakers arrived, they heard gunshots, screams and then a second shot, Wolfford said. According to the sergeant, a man identified as Van Brisbon came out of the house and said, “Do what you have to do,” before being taken into custody. Officials say a 16-year-old girl was killed. She had been shot several times. A man who claimed to be the teenage father of the teenager identified her as Lauren Juma, a 10th grader at Nimitz High School. According to her father, Lauren wanted to join the army or become a police officer. She told reporter Charly Edsitty that the person who called 911 was Lauren’s 19-year-old sister. Lauren reportedly called her mom when things escalated and it was her mom who called her older sister. The father’s girlfriend claims that when the sister showed up at the house, the suspect did not let her in, so she called 911. The sheriff’s office says Lauren and Brisbon were the only two people in the house as the girl’s mother was out of town, but has since returned. The mother, the teenager and the suspect all stayed at home. Deputies say Brisbon was uncooperative and the motive for the killing is unknown at this time. Brisbon was charged with murder and held in Harris County Jail. 2nd update on the Canton Trace scene: a woman called 911 and stated that her mother’s friend was holding her and her 16-year-old sister captive inside the house at gunpoint. Delegates arrived at the scene and heard gunshots as they approached the front door.
