Serrano’s record is now 42-2-1 and 30 knockouts. He has won world titles in seven weight classes ranging from 115 to 140 pounds. Last year, Serrano, 33, successfully defended her WBO and WBC featherweight titles.
Before the match, Taylor told CNN she was looking forward to entering the ring.
“We are two great champions at our peak and he will make such an amazing fight,” said Taylor. “I think stylistically we could do very, very well together. She is obviously a very, very aggressive fighter, like me. So, I think it will be a very, very exciting fight.”
The match marked the first time that two women were titles in the “Most Famous Arena in the World”. It was also the first boxing match between No. 1 and No. 2 since 2008, when Manny Pacquiao defeated Juan Manuel Marquez.
As a long-time champion in the sport, Taylor said that her own success is not enough, saying that she wants other women boxers to be elevated.
“I feel we have covered a lot of ground in recent years in terms of pay and wallets, but I still feel we still have a long way to go,” he told CNN.
“It’s not okay that Amanda and I only get big salaries, but that has to be passed on to the other fighters and I hope that can happen.”
Saturday’s match was originally scheduled for May 2, 2020, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
