Then came a subsequent police tweet stating that “due to the escalation of crowd aggression” at the intersection of Rideau and Sussex streets, some police officers will be deployed wearing helmets and shields.
Police say several people were arrested on Rideau Street.

The city of Ottawa has imposed strict restrictions in anticipation of this weekend’s demonstration to prevent a recurrence of the motorcade against the order that paralyzed the center’s core for several weeks earlier this year.

Rolling Thunder Rally participants arrived at Parliament Hill earlier in the evening. It was the first of many planned events this weekend.
Earlier in the week, Rolling Thunder Ottawa said in a statement that its members did not support police efforts.
