Another significant increase in some fuel prices today, pushing many fuel prices well beyond what many people never thought they would see, with more increases tomorrow as the new carbon tax rates take effect. Diesel on the island is up 17 cents a liter, while Labrador diesel is up 18 cents. This brings the price of diesel even closer to $ 3.00 per liter on the island and raises the price above $ 3.00 per liter in some parts of Labrador. Baking oil rises to close to 15 cents a liter. This raises the price of furnace oil to over $ 2.00 per liter. Stove oil also doubled – 14.62 cents on the island and 15.64 cents on Labrador. Meanwhile, a new increase is expected tomorrow with the introduction of a new tax rate on coal for gasoline and diesel fuel in all areas of the province. Gasoline will rise 2.6 cents per liter from midnight tonight, while diesel will have a new increase of 3.1 cents in carbon taxes.
This raises the total carbon tax on petrol to 11.05 cents per liter and to 13.41 cents on diesel.
