Residents were outraged by the incident following the so-called Freedom March demonstrations earlier this year, which lasted for weeks.
“No injuries have been reported and police are in full control of the city’s streets,” police said in a statement.
More than 500 participants were expected to travel to Ottawa this weekend, according to event organizers.
Law enforcement is preparing for protests.
The participants were warned by the police that the appearance of hate symbols such as swastikas “will lead to accusations”. The agency also warned that “targeting any community events will lead to a police and enforcement response”.
The city was paralyzed by Freedom Convoy demonstrations in January.
They began with truckers who opposed the Covid-19 vaccine order, which instructed all Canadian truckers crossing the U.S.-Canada border to be fully vaccinated or quarantined for two weeks when they returned.
Eventually, the protests attracted others who opposed the coronavirus restrictions at the time.
Hundreds of vehicles formed convoys converging in Ottawa, and many pedestrians joined the vehicles. The demonstration blocked the downtown area as well as major routes between the US and Canada.
The protests eventually broke out when Prime Minister Justin Trinto invoked the emergency law, resulting in the arrest of protesters and the removal of vehicles and roadblocks.
