The control unit compares sounds and vibrations to a pre-programmed list of possible targets. If the unit decides to attack, it eliminates a launch load when the vehicle is 50 meters (164 feet) away. About two seconds later, at an altitude of about 30 meters (98 feet), the head radar and infrared detector scan the ground to find the target. Then a metal slug, usually made of copper, is launched at breakneck speed into the tank. This explosive projectile travels so fast that it can penetrate 70 millimeters (2.75 inches) of traditional steel tank shielding and tear the thin plates at the top of the turret or on the rear deck of the vehicle. It is not known if any Ukrainian tanks have been destroyed by the mine so far.
