The organizers said they particularly hoped to play a woman of color in the role, as a representation of modern Britain and the Queen’s position as a global role model. Janice Ho, a 22-year-old Singaporean, will open the “Let’s Celebrate” section of the competition, dancing at the Mall as Princess Elizabeth on her doorstep to become Queen. Interacting with a dragon puppet the size of a double-decker bus, he will portray the Princess reconciling with her power and responsibility, before a grand finale in front of Buckingham Palace. The section of the competition will include many other “carnival queens”, from pineapples dancing to the royal wedding repeated through the Bollywood lens, as well as a drag queen named Cheddar Gorgeous.
