Snap, the company behind social media Snapchat, has introduced a drone called the Pixy, which is specifically made for taking selfies. Snapchat, which recently backed Apple in pricing the App Store, unveiled the Pixy at Snap Partner Summit 2022. The $ 50 drone was unveiled at a session on Snap’s latest creator tools. “Upgrade your Snaps, increase your audience and save money on your creativity with the latest Snapchat creator capabilities,” the company said on the summit website. “Plus, meet Pixy – the latest way to take your creativity to new heights.” The Pixy weighs 100 grams (0.22 pounds) and is about the size of a person’s palm. It is not yet clear how a user starts a flight, nor what control he has over its direction or duration. Upon completion, however, the Pixy can return to the user’s outstretched hand. Snap says it then begins to transfer its plans, though it is still unclear how this works. It may be transferred to the user’s phone, but it could probably be downloaded directly to Snapchat. Pre-orders are made now, but Snap reports about 11-12 weeks before shipment.
