Neighboring property owners praised the actions of firefighters and the helicopter crew. The NTS said the flames had approached some properties. Iain Turnbull, property manager at Balmacara Estate, said: “Scotland Fire and Rescue has done an excellent job of controlling and eventually extinguishing the fire. “I also want to pay tribute to the Skyhook helicopters for their role in fighting the fire, as well as to the local volunteers and community members who cared for the firefighters throughout the incident, providing them with food and refreshments.” He said the cause of the fire was not yet known. The fire was one of many throughout northern and western Scotland and came at a time of increased fire risk due to dry weather and large areas of dead and dry vegetation.
