WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Waukesha Police Department on the night of Friday, April 29 responded to an incident at a hotel that developed into a regular situation. The suspect was arrested. At around 20:50, just over two hours after the incident began, the sheriff’s office announced that the situation was “all clear”. Law enforcement remained on the scene, but there was no threat to the public. FOX6 News got to the point of finding a huge law enforcement response at the Baymont Inn & Suites on Moreland Avenue near Main Street around 6:45 p.m. SUBSCRIBE TODAY: Receive daily headlines, breaking news from FOX6 News According to Waukesha police, authorities were notified shortly before 6pm about a 44-year-old man shouting and “describing that he was out of control as someone was at his door”. Prior to the arrival of the police, the sheriff’s deputies tried to issue a restraining order against the man and took him to a mental health unit. Police had information, police say, that the man had threatened a staff member at a group home. He allegedly said he had a gun and “can visit” this person. Large police presence at the Baymont Inn & Suites, Waukesha When police arrived at the man’s door to the hotel, and as they tried to contact him, police said they heard him say something that resulted: “I will kill you.” Police then heard a shot, one person “quickly approaching” the closed door of the room and then a second shot. One of the officers fired his weapon “to defend himself and to defend the officers” nearby. A perimeter was established in the corridor of the hotel and regular staff and other law enforcement services were called. The suspect was eventually detained without incident. Police said the man has a history of arrest for offenses such as repeatedly sexually assaulting a child, drunkenness and disorderly conduct. A regular vehicle responds to the incident at the Waukesha Hotel near Moreland and Main No one was injured in the incident, police said. The officer who fired his gun has nine years of experience. The Waukesha Police Department will investigate.

Witnesses describe the scene

A witness, who asked not to be named, told FOX6 that he had been there all day and police had told him that a gunman was involved. Another person said he was at the hotel when it all happened. “I received the warning when I arrived in the area that there was a situation,” said Carrie Schroeder of Menomonee Falls, whose husband was at the hotel. “Make sure they are OK” Schroeder said she was on her way to meet her husband when she came on stage. He heard a shot. “And I have seen a SWAT team in something that looks like an armored truck,” he said. People in the area received a report referring to the incident around 6:45 p.m. Police advised the public to stay away from the area. FOX6 spoke with Schroeder shortly after the announcement. At the last check, her husband was still inside at that time. “To make sure it’s okay and just make sure we’re all fine,” Schroeder said. Large police presence at the Baymont Inn & Suites, Waukesha About 15 minutes later, Brian Schroeder was able to leave the hotel after being questioned by police. He said he heard what he thought was a shooting and police were telling people to stay in their rooms. “On the side to say the least,” he said. “I felt that everything stopped and accelerated at the same time. “I missed the police coming in for a few minutes. I listened to them and I was grateful I was safe and sound.” The couple is happy to be in the clear and to be together again. “The fact that I’m not injured is just a great relief,” said Brian. The Carroll University Center for Postgraduate Studies, located just behind the hotel, was locked due to the incident.
